Synopsis:
Her mom's a witch.
Her dad's a demon.
And she just wants to be ordinary.
I batted at the curl of smoke drifting off the tip of my candle and tried not to sneeze. My heavy velvet cloak fell in oppressive, suffocating folds in the closed space of the ceremony chamber, the cowl trapping the annoying bits of puff I missed. I hated the way my eyes burned and teared, an almost constant distraction. Not that I didn't welcome the distraction, to be honest. Anything to take my mind from what went on around me.
Being part of a demon raising is way less exciting than it sounds.
Sydlynn Hayle's life couldn't be more complicated. Trying to please her coven, starting over in a new town, and fending off a bully cheerleader who hates her are just the beginning of her troubles. What to do when delicious football hero Brad Peters--boyfriend of her cheer nemesis--shows interest? If only the darkly yummy witch, Quaid Moromond, didn't make it so difficult for her to focus on fitting in with the normal kids. Add to that her crazy grandmother's constant escapes driving her family to the brink and Syd's between a rock and a coven site. Forced to take on power she doesn't want to protect a coven who blames her for everything, only she can save her family's magic.

My review:
When I first saw this book I was intrigued by the title. The cover through me for a loop but I often look past the cover because it is what is in the inside of the book that matters. I read the reviews and the synopsis and thought "why not!" I was really happy that I took a chance on it. It is a great book and I look forward to purchasing the other books in the series and reading them. It is not often that a paranormal witchy book that nabs my heart but this one did. The characters developed nicely through out this first book that made me know them in a more in depth way than most other books of this length. The plot flowed and we got to experience some of the indecision and anxiety that face a lot of regular teens today. I loved this book and fully recommend the series to others that are interested in a bit of witch with their romance!

Patti Larsen is an award-winning middle grade and young adult author with a passion for the paranormal. But that sounds so freaking formal, doesn't it? I'm a storyteller who hears teenager's voices so loud I have to write them down. I love sports even though they don't love me. I've dabbled in everything from improv theater to film making and writing TV shows, singing in an all girl band to running my own hair salon.
