I have had the pleasure of reading the entire Pipe Woman Chronicles series by Lynne Cantwell. I am overjoyed by the story and saddened that it is over. The book Annealed was the fifth and final part of the story. I loved every moment of reading it.

Annealed

It is a journey that begins with a woman and her friend taking an adventure inside of a sweat lodge and ends with the memories of an out of this world experience. This series doesn't just fill our time with fantasy, it teaches us a  great deal. We learn about life, several different religions, myths and eventually we realize, we all have our own interpretation of right and wrong. I learned a lot about Native American culture, and several different Gods and Goddesses within a plethora of religious and mythological platforms.

This series is a must read for people that like a great story with a bit of adventure. It is as near perfect as any book can get. I can honestly say that not once in this series did I get mad about or offended by any of the religious aspects.

I rate Annealed 5 out of 5 and the whole series 5 out of 5!

Naomi Witherspoon lives in interesting times. At the winter solstice, she was Seized by a Native American goddess to mediate a power-sharing agreement between all the pagan gods and goddesses and the Christian God. Then, as her relationship with her new boyfriend Fissured, she Tapped a wellspring of strength – her Native American heritage.

Now, Gravid and due any day, she must conduct the mediation of her life. Will she succeed? Or will it all go up in smoke?

The answers to those questions, and more, can be found in Annealed, the final installment in the Pipe Woman Chronicles, an urban fantasy series by Lynne Cantwell.

It began at the winter solstice
And it ends...
Now.

The Pipe Woman Chronicles - book 1 - 4

Book 1 – Seized

The winter solstice 2012 won't be the end of the world. It will be the beginning of the end....

Naomi has a pretty sweet life. Respected as a skilled mediator, she has an almost uncanny knack for getting people on both sides of a dispute to agree. And her handsome boyfriend Brock has just proposed to her. But a white buffalo calf is bowing to her in her dreams. And who is the Native American man who has been following her around?

Naomi doesn't know it, but things are about to change....

Book 2 – Fissured

If anything can go wrong…

It’s not bad enough that Naomi Witherspoon is second-guessing her relationship with her new boyfriend, Ute shapeshifter Joseph Curtis. Now she’s been attacked by a jaguar in downtown Denver. And somebody has built a hydraulic fracturing operation down the road from their friend Charlie’s ranch. An independent filmmaker named Jack Rivers has conveniently appeared, and is documenting Charlie’s problems with the fracking operation. Naomi thinks Jack might be the Investigator – the fourth member of the team a Lakota Indian goddess set up to help Naomi broker peace between Jehovah and the pagan pantheons – but Jack seems more interested in causing trouble among Naomi, Joseph, and her best friend Shannon, than in helping out their team.

When the operator of the fracking facility turns out to be an old acquaintance, Naomi begins to wonder how many Tricksters it takes to make a divine deal….

Book 3 – Tapped

Ah, winter in South Dakota….

Naomi Witherspoon, chosen by a Lakota Indian goddess to mediate a truce in heaven, is in the midst of a number of down-to-earth problems. She hasn’t heard from her boyfriend, Joseph, in weeks. She has also been attacked recently by a man channelling an Aztec jaguar god. Her best friend Shannon thinks she ought to get out of town for awhile – but what Shannon proposes is a road trip to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to track down Naomi’s father, who doesn’t know she exists. Naomi agrees to go, but the additional stress literally makes her sick.

Their search is complicated by a surly teenager; a mysterious walled compound that may or may not belong to Loki, the Norse Trickster; and a blizzard or two. And why, to top it off, is Naomi dreaming of a wolf? As she tells Shannon, the way the woo-woo usually works, she figures the two of them are about to find out.

Book 4 – Gravid

Denial is not just a river in Egypt…

Naomi Witherspoon, back home in Denver after her “vacation” in South Dakota, has amassed a catalog of things she doesn't want to think about. Her due date is just around the corner, but she has yet to buy a single diaper – let alone look for a bigger place for her, her boyfriend Joseph, and the baby. Speaking of housing problems, Joseph’s grandfather is in failing health and needs to move out of his wickiup, but the old man won’t budge. Naomi and Joseph may have found a replacement for their woo-woo teammate/nemesis Jack in TV reporter Antonia Greco – but Antonia comes with her own set of problems, not least of which is that she’s dating Naomi’s ex-fiance, Brock. Meanwhile, Jack has escaped from the Mexican drug lord who owns him, and the thugs sent to find him aren’t above roughing people up.

Best of all, Naomi hasn't shared any of this with her mother, who wants to sell her house in Indiana and move to Colorado.

If Naomi can negotiate this minefield, mediating an agreement between White Buffalo Calf Pipe Woman and Jehovah ought to be a piece of cake…
